Tree Cutting at RTP- Next Sunday at 1pm – March 29

VRCMC Members plan to cut trees at Round Top Park for the Pond Area Expansion Project on SUNDAY – MARCH 29 at 1pm.
We will need people with chain saws and people to help move the limbs and such as they are cut.
We will not be moving any logs so we will not need any 4-wheelers.
Please bring any safety equipment you have and we will have some hard hats available.
It looks like a lot of small (6” to 12” diameter) trees to cut as well as a few bigger ones.
Park employees and loaners from Brad Cty Prison have been clearing brush around the trees.
We expect to have a few of these cutting sessions in April.
We will do the field rolling and clean-up closer to May when the ground is dryer.
We do not have to cut the trees flush with the ground. We are to leave 2’ stumps so the dozers have something to push.
We are to keep a list of names and hours spent working for the township for their grant money records.
I will send a reminder later in the week and will prob see some of you at our last Indoor Flying Session on SaturdayMarch 28 from 1-4 at Lynch School.
PLEASE RESPOND WITH YOUR PLANS TO HELP ON MARCH 29.
The gate will be locked so we will meet there at 12:30 to let everyone in.
We will hide a key under a rock at the left gate post for late arrivals.
THANKS, VRCMC

VRCMC Snow Fly Feb.14th 2015

With a forecast of 20F+ temps and wind less than 10mph the 2015 Valley R/C Snow Fly had no weather problems.

It snowed before, during and after which is normal for February in north PA. The Valley Soccer Fields served as the airport for the fun.

No crash points were made with the planes but the 4-wheeler Steve used to clear the lane and the parking area had a minor problem with the blade finding a RR tie along the lane.

Steve said he felt it but didn’t think it would leave a mark. THANKS for the plowing job Steve !

Paul, Jim S and Dan put up a few flights and got home with plenty of time to take their Valentine’s out on the town.

Next VRCMC Event is the 50th Annual Club Banquet on Feb. 28. See you there !

VRC Snow Fly changed to this Saturday at 1pm at Soccer Fields

Due to the Sunday weather prediction for single digit temps and double digit winds the Annual Snow Fly
has been moved up from Sunday to this SaturdayFeb 14 – at 1pm.
We’ll be done by 3pm so you’ll have lots-o-time to treat your Valentine to an evening out.

We’ll be flying at the Valley Soccer Fields located on Wilawana Road in Sayre.
Take Rt 220 to Sayre exit, turn west across the river and bear right on Wilawana Road.
The Soccer Fields are located about 1 mile north on the left side.
If you get to the 90 degree left hand turn you have gone 1/4 mile past the fields.

We will use Steve’s 4-wheeler and plow to clear the lane into the parking lot on the road edge of the field and will fly with our backs to the road and houses.
You can park along Wilawana Road on the west edge and walk in if you don’t want to drive into the rougher snow.

Bring your own hot beverage or food and dress accordingly for the current weather. This is north Pennsylvania, not some mamby pamby picnic. **   LOL

Valley R/C Indoor Flying ,Tuesday –Jan. 27

January is almost over. Spring is just behind at least two more months of crappy weather. Darn. Our session on the 13th had 16 people and lots of flying. Santa brought young Will DePew a Heli and he had a blast breaking it in. Kevin Huddleston invited him to our indoor fun. His 2015 membership in AMA was a late Xmas gift along with a Proto X Quad.

See you on Tuesday.    Dan L

VALLEY R/C 42nd ANNUAL FUN FLY & CONTEST July 19-20, 2014

25 entrants from Canada, Connecticut, New Jersey, NewYork, Ohio and Pennsylvania competed at the VRCMC 42nd Annual Contest & Fun Fly. The weekend had excellent weather with lots of sun and minimal wind. Friday evening we had Pizza for dinner with flying continuing to dark and after with planes with lights installed. Campfires on Friday & Saturday night provided some opportunity to kick back and relax with friends. Open flying and competition flying at two flight circles added more fun to each day. A large crowd of spectators kept the cook shack busy. Friday and Saturday evenings included lots of flying too. A flyer from New Jersey, Jason C, said he had more flights here than at any other event he has attended. That is what a Fun Fly is all about! Jeff Winemiller had a Time Flys Hobbies trailer selling hobby items. His helpers were Larry Cobb & David Hau. David lives in China and attends college in New York. He gets the travelled the furthest award for the week-end. The playing of the National Anthems of Canada and the USA started the contest each day. Junior, Sportsman and Expert Classes of Fun Fly were able to complete 4 rounds of double flights during the week-end competition. When not competing many flyers entertained us with plane & heli demos.
Seven Junior Class Entrants aged 5 to 13 continued the VRCMC tradition of promoting R/C to our young flyers. Flyers Luke S & Adam T flew their flights with no help from their coaches. We had 4 girls and 3 boys in Junior Class. Sixteen years young Alex Turner flew in the Expert Class competition.
The event winners and entrants received Baron Engraved Awards, VRCMC plaques (made by the AMA), and prizes from BARON TECHNOLOGIES, ROLLY SIEMONSEN, VRCMC MEMBERS, TIME FLYS HOBBIES,
LANTZ’S HOBBY SHOP, SULLIVAN PRODUCTS, NCFFA, BSI, RADIO CONTROL MODELS, APC PROPS, SIG, CASTLE CREATION, DREMEL, TOWER HOBBIES, MICRO-FASTENERS, RTL, BALSA USA, HOBBICO, BOCA BEARINGS, FOX, TRU-TURN, JAMIE BUTLER & LITTLE TREES and SPORT FLYER MAGAZINE. PLEASE SUPPORT THESE SPONSOR’S ! They donated over $1800 in prizes!!
The Saturday Picnic Dinner was catered by Corning Catering BBQ & Dean L with pulled pork sandwiches, sausage and chicken along with sides and dessert was provided by the wives of flyers and club members. Hotels, campers, homes and tents provided a place to rest after the evening campfires.
Dan L CD’d the contest. VRCMC members and families covered the duties during the contest. Dean L was in charge of the cook crew, which included Dr. Paul & Walter L. Steve L created the events and was Chief Judge with Rick B, Jim C & other VRC Members who helped score the flights. Dan & Luke S used Rolly’s a/c equipped camper to determine the final scores. THANK YOU to all who helped!
The Crash Award was given to Steve L for his Turnbuckle and DLG Glider snafu’s. MiniBuckle Kit Raffle winner was Sally Cady from Horseheads NY who chose the $50 cash prize option. Entrant’s Raffle Winner was Alex Foley from Canada. His prize was a Sullivan Products Electric Starter.
Great Event Flying resulted in these contest winners: Rolly Siemonsen in Expert, Vinnie Quartararo in Sportsman, 5 year young Kailin Rodmell in Junior. Everyone who entered received prize bags of goodies.
THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for helping to make the VALLEY R/C CLUB’s 50th YEAR and 42nd edition of the FUN FLY CONTEST another success. It is the people at the contest that made it great. Our Club and our families have had many great times at Fun Fly’s over the years. We look forward to our next chance to visit and fly with our friends. Please join us in 2015 to mark our 43rd Annual Fun Fly Contest. July 18 & 19 is the tentative date. A relaxed contest format will continue to be used as we celebrate 4+ decades of fun and competition.

Work Bee, Mowing and Wedbesday Night Flying

Our Sunday work bee went great. A good turnout of energetic guys and one gal helped get the field mowed, rolled and de-brushed along the road and at some of the south end. Bruno is checking with a friend about hiring him to brush hog more of the south end, across the road and around the field perimeter. Bruno plans to do some more slicing of brush around the outhouse. It has grown to a point where it will be twice the work in another year. Anyone that wants to help pick at this brush is welcome to join in. Just pile the brush behind the outhouse to block access into the field. or leave it where it falls and others can do the moving and piling. Mike & Mark McGuire brought a large zero-turn mower and did a fine job trimming the grass and outlying areas. That Simplicity really moved out and you could tell it wasn’t Mike’s first ride in the rodeo. Wade Abbott used a gasoline hedge trimmer and a small chain saw to clear some of the south end brush. Walter had his saw and implements clearing brush and he also lowered one of the large stumps. Steve’e 4-wheeler towed the roller most everywhere and flattened a lot of bumps. Jeff & Judean set a new dress code for our work bee by wearing some of their Sunday best. Ties or bowties may be the Wednesday Flying dress code this summer. Just don’t let the tie get into the prop or rotor blades. Dan used Steve’s trailer and car to retrieve the Husqvarna mower from storage and he’ll do the oil, filter, grease, blade fun this week on both mowers. The shed’s were raised and they both need some shingle repairs as well as some cleaning out which will also keep Dan busy.

THANKS to everyone who helped with the fun today.
Wednesday Night Flying will commence this week. Bring a sandwich, a beverage, something to fly, or just come out to offer free advise. Wednesday sessions are always fun.
The Mowing Roster will be sent out this week. Mike M will team up with Walter this season. Wade Abbott is available for fill in. We are hoping we have a bit of a drought this summer so we don’t have to mow every week after the end of July. Until then it will be weekly mowing of the main runway and some of the perimeter sections. We hope to extend the runway a bit south in the center area.
SEE YOU AT RTP FIELD SOON !
REMINDER – it is tick season in N. E. PA. Bug spray is your first defense against Mr. Tick and the not so friendly RTP Mosquitoes. Consider yourself warned.
