2010 Fun Fly Scores July 17-18

Round Top Park – Athens,Pa. July 17th and 18th

23 entrants from Canada, Connecticut, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania competed at the VRCMC 38th Annual Competition Fun Fly. Weekend had excellent weather. Friday evening we had Pizza for dinner with flying continuing to dark. Campfires both nights provided some opportunity to kick back and relax with friends. Open flying before and between the rounds of competition added more fun to the contest format. Friday and Saturday evening the air was filled with airplanes and helicopters.

The playing of the National Anthems of Canada and the USA started the contest each day. Junior, Sportsman and Expert Classes of Fun Fly were able to complete 3 rounds during the week-end. Competition flying was held until 4 pm on Saturday and 1:30 on Sunday.

Five Junior Class Entrants keep the VRCMC tradition of promoting R/C to our younger flyers, an upswing from past years. The event winners and all entrants received Baron Engraved Awards, VRCMC plaques (made by the AMA), and prizes from LANTZ’S HOBBY SHOP in Horseheads,NY, BARON TECHNOLOGIES, Rolly Siemonsen, BSI, Radio Control Models, SULLIVAN, MASTER AIRSCREW, SIG, LONE STAR BALSA, R/C REPORT, Tower Hobbies, MICRO-FASTENERS, PROPWASH VIDEO, RTL, Global Hobby Distributors, FOX, Balsa USA, SIG Manufacturing, BOCA BEARINGS and Jim Champion. The Saturday Picnic Dinners were catered by Corning Catering BBQ with pulled pork sandwiches and chicken along with sides, dessert was provided by better halves of flyers and club members, thank you! Hotels, campers, homes, tents, and vehicles provided a place to rest after the evening campfires.

Jim Champion CD’d the contest. VRCMC members and families covered the duties during the contest. Dean Luchaco was in charge of the cook crew, which included his son Kevyn, Carl Shay, and Meghan/Alicia Luchaco. Dan, Steve, Rob and Anna were the judges that scored the flights. Dan & Jim S crunched numbers for the scoreboard.

The Crash Award was given to Alex Turner for testing the strength of an oak tree as well as Dave Baron flaming out his electric jet. Rolly won the raffle of the donated Menace, Rocky won the donated Turnbuckle kit, and Rolly won the Florio plane, which was passed down to the winner of the Junior class, Jordan Siemonsen.

Great flying by the winners of the contest, Dave Baron in Expert, Don Zaleski in Sportsman, Jordan Siemonsen in Junior.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE for helping to make the VALLEY R/C Club’s 45th Year and 38th edition of the FUN FLY CONTEST another success. It is the people at the contest that made it great! A relaxed contest format will be used as we celebrate 3+ decades of fun and competition.

Our Club and our families have had many great times at Fun Fly’s over the years. We look forward to our next chance to visit and fly with our friends.
